Memory  Mortem  Transeat

Mortem  Transeat  is an animated short film that I directed together with Carla  Bové. The argument is one  fusion  of ideas between art director Clara Bosch and me. On the one hand she  he had in his head  the short of a girl who  he was playing  to ball and sneaked into a cemetery. There he met a ghost. I completed the rest.

From the beginning  we had  clear to direct the short towards a style similar to that of Tim  Burton, a frequent reference when we think of stop animation  motion  and especially when in our short film  there is  cemeteries and ghosts of  pel  mig. Eventually, however,  vem  end up combining two animation techniques although at first everything went  to be stop-motion 3d. In spite of everything  vam  realize that by the ironic tone that  we were looking for  it wasn't a bad idea to make the characters in  cut  out  The movements and expressions that this one offered us  technique  favored comedy and the  to  acid that  we were looking for.  Pel  look  spooky  of the cemetery in  3d  kept the spooky touch of  Frankenweenie  i  Nightmare  before  Christmas  (to maintain the essence  burtoniana  what  we were looking for).  Vem  also combine black and white with color (characters only). On the one hand the black and white referred us to Tim’s films  Burton  how  Ed  Wood,  Frankenweenie  i  Nightmare  before  christmas. But  at the  do it  en  cut out  vam  to check  that the characters do not  they stood out  enough. And the colors that  vam  use  they helped narratively  .  It was an intense work of art.

On the team  we were  6, each in a different department: me and Carla  Bové  script and direction, Clara Bosch artistic direction, Xavi  Souto  direction of  photography, Marina  Figueras  production and Albert  Suarez  so.

In the field of  direction  To us  vam  distribute the rolls as follows: I took care of running the most narrative part (script,  storyboard  i  animation) and she to oversee the animation itself and the aesthetics. But obviously, every decision had to not only count on the  consent  of both  if not  usually from the rest of the team.

Once  vam  have the dossier done,  vam  get together several times to create the characters and the mock-up. Specifically I go  take care of me  to make the cutouts of the characters and to paint them. Also in the construction of the tombs (cut, coating with soft plaster, paint) together with Clara Bosch and make the relief (mountains, earth, etc.) with a special foam.

The shooting on  vam  divide into three days. The first to shoot the plans of the model and the remaining days to animate, separately, the characters (with Photoshop).

We liked it  the idea  to make a  scketch  with a final turn, where  hi  had  a mixture of horror and slightly sour humor.
